Unicorn 2022 Recap

December 27, 2022

We want to say thank you to all of our Unicorns for a wonderful, successful and eventful year! So much has happened this year and we’re grateful to have shared such great moments with you all!

So come along with us now on a little time trip throughout the past year – our Unicorn 2022! PS: Some VIPs (very important pets) are waiting to greet you at the end!

Hugely pepped up: UCB and New Work Shop!

Our Event Space Unicorn Brunnenviertel is shining in new splendor. In 2022, 50 events with 1,800 attendees took place here. We’re proud of our terrific Event Team – thank you Roni & Ben! Among our personal highlights were: HSO Schweiz, Xathon women’s hackathon, the Uhlala LGBTIQ+ exhibition and three blood drives held throughout the year by the DKMS to help fight blood cancers.

Our former Pavillon has also not only undergone a name change. With the help of our Marketing and Operations Team, our New Work Shop has been transformed into a completely modernized meeting space, featuring a perfect pairing of aesthetics and practicality. Test center

Like many others, the Corona pandemic has also hit us hard. Yet we always try to find the best response to challenges that come our way – and that’s how the Rapid Test Center Berlin got its start. Be safe and stay healthy!

Work Together

With lots of spaces come lots of possibilities. Our employees can choose to work from any of our Unicorn locations. That’s really great, but unfortunately, we don’t get to see each other that often. So we figured we could set up a Work Together event. Our workspace in the Gerichtstraße was the perfect site for lots of Unicorns to get together and enjoy working in this beautiful, newly renovated space.

Unicorn Art Night

Many components make up what we know as New Work. Which one is our favorite? Probably the team events! That’s why we we held an Art Night for our Unicorns. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” was certainly the guiding theme of the evening. While the night was primarily geared towards just having fun, we were also surprised by how many of our employees are also talented artists. Perhaps this or that piece of art will find its way into our workspaces.

Free desks for refugees & the Unicorn Refugee Relief

When the Ukraine was attacked, we couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. Our immediate, initial reaction was to offer single desks free of charge to those in need. Yet, we wanted to do even more, and with the help of our employees we set up a shop where those fleeing from the war can obtain items donated to the shop free of charge. We’d like to give a huge thanks to Didi, who greatly contributed to our relief project with several fundraising activities.  We’ve been able to collect everything from clothing and kitchen appliances to food, drugstore items and pet supplies. Our Unicorn Refugee Relief will continue in this new year. Keep on reading to find out what we managed to raise in contributions with our final fundraiser event in 2022.

Gerichtstraße video and mood pics

That was a party! Make-up, cameras and pizza - our most recent video shoot in the Gerichtstraße had everyone feeling like a film star! A very big thanks to everyone involved and especially to our main actors, Didi and Disco. The video beautifully showcases what makes this space so special.

Heldisch Networx Video

For most businesses, security is of essential importance. That’s why we’ve partnered with Heldisch Networx to provide our users with the utmost security for their data. In this short video interview, Andreas explains some elements of Unicorn’s IT structure and talks about how secure our network is.

New Unicorn HQ

We’ve moved our Unicorn HQ from AEG2 to Gendarmenmarkt. The AEG2 was incredibly popular and we needed a change of scenery. We were all excited about setting up our new headquarters in the Gendarmenmarkt space. In the picture you can see us enjoying our weekly lunch.

Unicorn at trade fairs

Unicorn was an exhibitor at three different trade shows this past year. We were at the Real Estate Industry Day and the Innovation Conference in Berlin, and we also managed to attend Germany’s largest real estate trade fair, the Expo Real in Munich. The exhibition center received approximately 40,000 visitors, and our coffee was named the best coffee at the event.

Unicorn Kustermannpark

Our new space in Munich! Our latest location opened in August 2022 – there’s still a bit of construction work going on, but it’s almost completely finished. Plus, there are some great introductory rates available for the Kustermannpark space. Are you looking for a new workspace in Munich? Book an appointment for a tour here! Have a look at our space in the Kaufingerstraße, too.

Christopher Street Day 2022

United in love! Taking a stance together against hate, war and discrimination. At the CSD in Berlin, we wanted to demonstrate what we stand for: equal rights and peace. Even if our parade truck was the smallest in the fleet, we certainly had the biggest hearts! We were there at the event from start to end, meeting and celebrating with great people. Our slogan for CSD 2022 was “Unicorn for ALL!”. Read here to learn about the campaign’s call to actions for our working world.

Unicorn after work

One of the nicest ways to end the working day! We enjoy getting to know our users better and giving them the opportunity to mingle with each other. For that, there’s nothing better than our afterwork parties, which take place in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich. Our baristas-turned-bartenders mix the drinks – can their cocktails stand up to their coffee creations? True Unicorns know the answer.

Unicorn summer party

We wouldn’t be where we are now if it weren’t for our employees. Aside from salaries, we want to give something in return. A wonderful event is a great way to show our staff that they’re appreciated. Our summer party was a time for us to let go and have fun, enjoying a lovely summer night together.

Bingo night

Our event team just can’t get enough of planning fun things for our Unicorns. Everyone enjoyed themselves at this spontaneously arranged little Bingo night.

Corporate Run

Unicorn Christmas party

Another year was coming to a close so quickly as all the Unicorns from Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich gathered at the Kreuzberg restaurant Katerschmaus. As we chowed down on excellent eats, many a glass was raised and toasts were made to the year which we’d mastered together. The photo booth didn’t get a break all night but, ahem, those pretty pictures we’re keeping to ourselves. ;)

Unicorn Christmas Market

Our Event and Marketing Team created a little Christmas magic in our Village Workspace. It looked like a mini winter wonderland and there was lots of neat stuff, from hard liquors to scrunchies. Our Unicorns made a hand-crafted prize wheel where players could win prizes and fortunes to find what the future holds in store. We were also pouring mulled wine and egg nog to collect funds for our Unicorn Refugee Relief. We managed to raise 1,100€ to benefit the Unicorn Refugee Relief.

Office doggos

Finally, we’d like to introduce our tiniest unicorns. They’re cute, furry and good at putting smiles on our faces. What would our offices be without them?

Bigga, Merlin and Lotte (left to right)

Bigga and Merlin are among our most loyal four-footed Unicorn companions. They mostly spend time at the Brunnenviertel location, but join in on team events once in a while, too.

Unfortunately, Lemon (top left) is only a part-time office dog. We’d love to have her with us every single day.  You’ll most likely run into Lemon at the Gendarmenmarkt or Brunnenviertel spaces. Mats (bottom left) is our little cuddler boy. On a nice summer afternoon, he decided to skip asking for a walkie and just slipped out for a stroll around Neukölln without letting anyone know. Luckily, a search party of six Unicorns was able to quickly locate him about 10 minutes after his disappearance. They found him cuddling up with a nice man on a park bench. Yep, cuddlers gonna be cuddlers. Disco (right) is a little, loveable bundle of energy that lives up to his name. He’s already been everywhere – our little film star.

Enola (left) “don’t look, don’t touch ” – but hey, she’ll do anything for treats. She likes being in Brunnenviertel, and hopefully she’ll enjoy spending time at Gendarmenmarkt in the future. Janosch (right) is our newest member. The young boy from Cologne can’t wait to stir things up a bit in our spaces.
