A day with Didi (Unicorn Workspaces)

February 15, 2023

A little bit about Didi: her first name’s actually Daugile, but everyone knows her as Didi. She became a member of our Unicorn family in August, 2021. There’s not an incoming customer email that escapes her penetrating Unicorn eye. Didi makes sure that every single lead ends up where it should be and – of course – on time, too! She’s also the store manager of our Unicorn Refugee Relief Supermarket.

It’s 8 a.m. Are you already wide awake, or still in a deep sleep?

The 5 AM club? Nope, never heard of it. :) As a former nurse, I appreciate long and good sleep. That’s why I really like 9-5 working hours. At 8 am you’ll see me on the street, taking my dog Disco for a morning walk. After that, it’s time to plan the day and get started!

It’s 10 a.m. and you’re in the middle of a productive phase. What’s essential for you to be productive?

#teamanalog or #teamdigital? That’s a tough question. Let’s be honest: even if we always have our smartphones and laptops with us, to grab a pen and write something on a white peice of paper, that brings us into another mindspace. Which is why I like both: technology, because it simplifies a lot of things, but a simple pen and 8.5 x 11 notepad, too. Then there’s also Spotify, which I can’t live without, either during working hours or in my spare time. Music really helps me concentrate and gives off some good upbeat vibes, especially when I’m working on monotonous tasks. If I need to get my mind off of things, I’ll listen to low-fi and electronic music. What’s a no-go for me is white noise! That stuff just isn’t for me.  Recently, our CEO, Florian Kosak, shared his playlist of music from the 20s with us – that really works wonders! Simple, entertaining, focused. Definitely give it a listen!

It’s 1 p.m. and your stomach is growling. What do you do? Have a muesli bar and go out for a jog? Go over the latest analytics with business partners? Are you rather a stay-in-at-the-office type, or do you need to get out and get some fresh air?

I love our team, so what can be better than spending a lunch break with these fun and interesting people? It’s why I try to go to the office as much as possible. If I’m working from home, then I pretty much succumb to working throughout the whole day with a few little snacks in between. I love Berlin for its wide range of different foods and restaurants!

It’s 3 p.m., and you’ve answered the last emails for the day. Have any baffling inquiries or customer requests ever shown up in your mailbox?

We’ve already had some inquiries asking if we have among our spaces some luxury villas to offer. Ha ha! I wish we had a few on hand to choose from for our next team event. Maybe Unicorn will begin adding such properties to its offerings soon, I’ll keep my fingers crossed! Of course, there are an enormous amount of inquiries asking if we provide residential spaces, but that’s completely understandable, considering the housing situation in Berlin.

It’s 6 p.m., is the workday coming to an end or just getting started?

I finish my workday at 6 pm. Up until then, I go through my emails and my tasks on the CRM platform. Afterwards, I can hardly wait to go for a long walk through the city with my dog, Disco. I’ve been living in Berlin for three years, yet I still have so much to discover here. I try to take a different route every week, so that I can get to know Berlin better. (Editor’s note: in this short clip, you’ll see how Didi and Disco spend their day at Unicorn.)

It’s 10 p.m. and you finally have time for yourself! Are you a series addict? A music lover, bookworm or binging podcast listener?

My goal is to be in my bedroom by 11 pm, so that I can really get some good rest! Did you know that researchers have found out that on average people need 8-10 hours of sleep per night? I definitely belong to this category. Who doesn’t like to sleep, especially to sleep well? So after 10 pm, I try to keep my hands off my smartphone and begin with my night routine. Here’s my tip of the day: make a TO-DONE list. I write down all the goals I’ve accomplished and tasks I’ve completed throughout the day. Then I don’t dwell on the tasks I have remaining. A few podcasts that I enjoy listening to are: Huberman Lab, TED health, Easy German.
