#1 A Day With Florian (Unicorn Workspaces)

February 2, 2021

Welcome to our new format “A Day With” where we take the opportunity to introduce the people that work from our workspaces.

We kick this new series off with our one and only Unicorn-CEO Florian.

Since 2015 Unicorn Workspaces makes flexible offices available to everyone - at fair prices and with a personal touch.

8 AM: Are you wide awake or still in deep sleep?

8 AM is when I get up. My morning meditation consists of checking NTV and Slack. Afterwards, I take a long shower and then kick off my day.

11 AM: It’s time for the first meeting of the day. Today it’s a job interview with a potential new team member. What do you look for in a team member?

Before we start the actual interview, I take the applicant for a tour through our workspace. Of course, we have to stop by the Community Barista and have some excellent coffee before we start the actual interview. What really matters to me is to see that a potential team member has done their research about Unicorn and already knows a lot about the company.

1 PM: You are hungry. What do you do now? Do you check the latest analytics with your business partner? Do you grab a cereal bar and go for a run? Are you a couch potato or fresh air fanatic?

I definitely go out for lunch. What I enjoy most is to have lunch with my team at Cantinerie. Especially in summer, it’s nice to have lunch there outside, which is something I currently really miss.

4 PM: You have a press appointment. It’s about the founding of your business. Who has particularly influenced you here? Do you have a role model?

Even before I founded Unicorn I used to work from my own offices and always decorated them with a lot of love. Somehow I still got jealous at the fancy offices of Google or Apple. At some point, I thought that it must be affordable for everyone to work from a fancy office that includes Barista coffee – even if your company only has six employees. And that’s what we put into effect at Unicorn.

6 PM: Is it time to stop working, or are you just getting started?

I get up at 8 AM and therefore take more time to work in the evenings. That works perfectly for me because I tend to work more productive in the evenings when there are no distractions. I love to listen to jazz while I work. It makes work more fun and sometimes even feel like no work at all. Most of the time, I close my laptop at midnight.

10 PM: Time to have a break, time to read, to listen and to think. What book/podcast/series/music are you recommending?

I like to listen to the On The Way To New Work Podcast. Sometimes I also listen to a book in 15 minutes at Blinkist. To fall asleep I swear on  listening to cheesy historical novels.
