#2 A Day with Stella (Laori)

March 10, 2021

Fresh, delicious, natural and alcohol-free: that’s Laoris alcohol-free Gin & Tonic. We are happy that Laori has found their home in one of our Unicorn workspaces and accompany founder and CEO Stella through her day.

8 AM: Are you wide awake or still in deep sleep?

I’m an early bird. Of course, I use the snooze button in winter for one or two times, but then I get up. I take a quick shower and then I have a big breakfast. To leave the house without having breakfast is a no-go for me. After I had breakfast I meditate for 10 to 15 minutes and then bike to the office.

11 AM: It’s time for the first meeting of the day. Today it’s a job interview with a potential new team member. What do you look for in a team member?

That always depends a bit on the job position. For some areas, we look for people who are already familiar with these areas. We need explicit hard skills so that they can take over our work and develop an area independently. In other areas, we are open to people with less experience, but a lot of motivation for the area and our company.

1 PM: You are hungry. What do you do now? Do you check the latest analytics with your business partner? Do you grab a cereal bar and go for a run? Are you a couch potato or fresh air fanatic?

We always have lunch break together as a team. Sometimes we bring lunch from home, or we get something to eat from the restaurants around the corner. We also catch up with other people during lunch break at times. In any case, great food is a must.

4 PM: You have a press appointment. It’s about the founding of your business. Who has particularly influenced you here? Do you have a role model?

Laori was born out of my own need. I was sitting in a bar one night and just wanted a Gin & Tonic without alcohol. Since that wasn’t available, I ended up just creating one myself with my co-founder Christian. I don’t have one specific role model. For the development of Laori, we learn a lot from experienced founders and brands and trust in great people who accompany us with their knowledge and experience.

6 PM – Is it time to stop working, or are you just getting started?

I finish work between 6 and 8 pm. During peak times, I might finish later. That depends on what’s going on. Last year, I didn’t attend many digital networking events because I didn’t get that much out of them. I prefer to use the time and work a bit more.

10 PM: Time to have a break, time to read, to listen and to think. What book/podcast/series/music are you recommending?

I just read “The Hard Thing About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz. It helped me a lot as it addresses many topics that I am dealing with right now as a founder. I am a big fan of the “On Purpose” podcast by Jay Shetty for personal development and of “How I build this” by Guy Raz for founder stories.
